Type O Negative retired back in 2010 after a two-decade long career and seven albums, one of which went gold and the other, platinum. Their emo gothic rock accumulated over 1.5 million sales in the course of their career, and were subsequently nicknamed "The Drab Four." Sadly, frontman and bassist Peter Steele passed away in 2010, resulting the group's disbandment.
The Beatles and Black Sabbath were the two main influences for Type O Negative, however they blended those sounds with electrifying synthesisers and bouncy distortion in a way that brought emo goth rock to life. Emotive, distinctive vocals, pianos and organs, reverberated guitar, and snappy drums propelled them into a genre of their own.
And recently, Kenny Hickey – one of the guitarists for Type O Negative – was a guest on Loaded Radio and told radio host Scott Penfold that Type O Negative was "working on the artwork now" for an official full-length live album (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). Hickey said that they were "in the mixing process" and that he was "excited" about it."
Hickey also informed Penfold that the remaining Type O Negative members – bar one – were recently considering a tribute show for Peter Steele. But the band's keyboardist Josh Silver was unwilling to participate or coordinate a show due to the difficulty of committing to such an event while also being a paramedic in New York City.
