Post-metal pioneers The Ocean have issued a reflective New Year's statement, confirming they are currently finishing work on a new full-length album set for release in the second half of 2026.
In a message posted to The Ocean's social media, founding guitarist Robin Staps described 2025 as a "transitional but very important year" for the band, following the departures of longtime vocalist Loïc Rossetti, drummer Paul Seidel, and guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt. The lineup changes initially left the future of the band uncertain.
"A year ago, I had a hard time imagining this next chapter without my former band mates," Staps wrote. "I was determined to push the pause button myself and focus on other projects, like everybody else."
However, what began as a period of uncertainty quickly evolved into creative momentum. Staps explained that as "old things fell apart, new things fell into place," and that the rebuilding process happened more naturally, and faster than expected.
After a year spent reflecting, reshaping, and rebuilding, Staps says the band is now energized and focused. The Ocean – currently consisting of Staps, longtime bassist Mattias Hägerstrand, and new drummer Jordi Farré — is completing recordings for approximately an hour of new music, which will make up the band's 12th studio album.
"I am as excited about this as a 46-year-old kid waiting to play his first gig ever," Staps added.
The statement also thanked fans for their patience during what Staps described as a "rather quiet phase," teasing that new material or announcements are coming soon. He closed by wishing supporters a healthy and warm new year, emphasizing that "everything else is less important."
