The July 3rd Machine Head event in Athens, Rob Flynn decided to stay in Athens to celebrate his 25th wedding Anniversary with his wife Genevra Flynn for the next few weeks. Maybe it was a pre-planned stay as the tour conveniently picked up again in Europe at that point, but it almost seems like there was a secret plan to also create a local public celebration on July 18th for his upcoming 58th birthday, which just passed on July 19th.
Both the events were hosted by Made of Stone Productions, but this local event named “Robb Flynn & Friends” featured some Greek Metal heavy hitters. Singer and bassist of Septicflesh Seth Siro Anton, bassist of Wolfheart (Finland) and guitarist of Full House BC (Greece) Vagelis Karzis, Scar of the Son guitarist Jimmy Rokko, bassist Thanasis Tibalexis, Lucifer’s Child drummer Nick Vell, keyboardist Johnny Thermos, Nightrage (Greece) vocalist Konstantinos Togas, and legendary production man for Septicflesh who played guitars for the Iron Maiden covers, Simos Halaris.
The Birthday set included:
- Breaking the Law by Judas Priest
- Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails
- Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine
- Wrathchild by Iron Maiden
- In The End by Linkin Park
- Hardwired by Metallica
- Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen
- Everlong by Foo Fighters
- Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix
- Dead Skin Mask by Metallica
- Hallowed Be The Name by Iron Maiden
- In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins
- Territory by Sepultura
- Basket Case by Green Day
- Seek & Destroy by Metallica
- Ace of Spaces by Motorhead
- Davidian by Machine Head
- Roots by Sepultura
The event was announced a week before and sold out within a few short days after being announced. We learned some people flew in at the last minute from the U.K. and Belgium to participate in this party as Flynn announced from the stage.
