AFI is a band whose sound and appearance have evolved with each new album. With every era feeling like a reinvention, their trajectory – from the breakneck pace of their early days to their current darkwave-influenced sound – reflects a mature band confident in its identity. Their show at The Sylvee in Madison, WI, which kicked off their 2025 Fall Tour, was a testament to that evolution.

The seasoned punk quartet performed a wide-ranging set, with frontman Davey Havok adapting older songs to suit his more matured voice. Several new tracks from their upcoming record, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun were unveiled, continuing the band’s legacy of sonic transformation.

While the show may not have matched the raw, unrestrained energy of their early years, AFI still delivered a powerful, emotionally charged performance that resonated with both longtime followers and newer fans alike.
