Pelican is set to return once again with Ascending, a new four-song release arriving digitally and as 12" vinyl EP on January 23 from Run For Cover. Serving as both an extension of and companion to this year's Flickering Resonance, the EP gathers rare and previously unavailable material that showcases the band's revitalized founding lineup of guitarists Laurent Schroeder-Lebec and Trevor Shelley de Brauw with brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg at a moment of renewed creative vigor.

Centered around its expansive title track "Ascending," a previously unheard song from the Flickering Resonance sessions, the EP also features a rare version of the album standout "Cascading Crescent," with vocals by Geoff Rickly (of Thursday, United Nations, and more). In conjunction with the announcement, Pelican released the track today alongside a video comprised of live footage captured the sole time the band and Rickly performed the song together.

Rounding out the EP are "Adrift" and "Tending the Embers," two songs the band recorded and self-released in 2024 just as the material that became Flickering Resonance was taking shape. Paired with the new songs, the EP acts as a full circle moment, marking both the opening and closing of this era of the band as they prepare for the next chapter.

In celebration of the album and the EP, Laurent from Pelican and Will Killingsworth from Dead Air Studios teamed to create a custom guitar pedal inspired by the sound of the band's recent material. The result is Resonance, a pedal whose reverb interacts with users' playing style and resonates in a variety of unique fashions, varying from light echo to lush soundscapes to self-oscillating frenzy.

Pre-orders for the EP and pedal are available here.
